Ninety-six years old and better than ever, the Mineral Point Opera House is on its way to once again being a regional performing arts center. During 2009, we watched as this magnificent old theater was restored to its original grandeur. Thanks to grants and generous donors, the renovation includes updated heating and air conditioning, ?a long-overdue sprinkler system, historically accurate seating, glorious plasterwork restoration and decorative arts painting ?by the original group from the theater’s inception. In April 2010, the curtain opened to a full house as we celebrated its Grand Re-Opening with an evening of music and merriment. In its first few months following the re-opening, audiences have been treated to concerts, plays, high school musicals, ballet, movies, and the inaugural season of The Driftless Film Festival.
We are proud to be the home of one of the few remaining film and ?performing arts houses in Wisconsin. Dedicated in 1915 as the “Theater for All the People,” it was built as a vaudeville house that attracted touring artists who presented first class entertainment to an enthusiastic community. With a balcony and two boxes, the auditorium originally seated over 700 theater-goers who were treated to live drama, grand opera and symphonic music. As time went by, movies took over as the entertainment choice. Today the Mineral Point Opera House combines live stage and the big screen to provide audiences with a variety of entertainment choices.
