Mineral Point Library Archives of Local History

Historic MPOne of Mineral Point’s most valuable resources, located within the Public Library is The Mineral Point Library Archives, a critically acclaimed collection of valuable materials for historical research. The Archives is open Thursday, 12 to 5 and Saturday, 10 – 4.  For more information, contact the Library at 608.987.2447 or email mparchive@swls.org. Collections include the papers of Allen Ludden, donated by his wife the actress Betty White. The Woodrow Wilson Collection is a series of letters between President Wilson and his friend David Jones, a resident of Mineral Point.  An extensive Native American collection contains a first edition Black Hawk autobiography. Ethnic Records and Genealogy highlight  early Cornish, Welsh, Italian and African -American families who settled in the area including census data, atlases, plat books, surveys and maps dating from 1798. Local records include historical documents of  businesses, churches, schools, newspapers, Civil War, local mining history, early laws and personal records.
